Cooper made history with his play "Ain't No Mo'," a satirical series of vignettes exploring the notion of African Americans being offered a one-way ticket to Africa by the U.S. government. This production debuted Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2019 and later transitioned to Broadway in 2022, making Cooper the youngest Black American playwright to have a work produced on Broadway. The play received critical acclaim and was nominated for six Tony Awards, with Cooper earning a nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role as Peaches, a flamboyant flight attendant.
In television, Cooper is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of "The Ms. Pat Show," a sitcom that has been praised as "one of the most radical sitcoms of the modern era."
