Born on September 29, 1995, in Memphis, Tennessee, Julien Baker is an American indie rock singer and guitarist. While in high school, Baker co-founded the band the Star Killers, who renamed themselves Forrister in 2015. During her first year at MTSU, Baker began writing songs on her own. In October 2015, 6131 Records released the album. "Sprained Ankle." In March 2016, Baker gave an NPR Tiny Desk performance. In October 2016, she contributed to "Say Yes! A Tribute to Elliott Smith." In 2017, she signed with Matador Records. In 2018, Baker formed the rock group Boygenius. On October 21, 2020, Baker announced her third studio album, Little Oblivions. In March 2023, Boygenius released their debut studio album. The band played Coachella 2023. In February of 2024, Julien Baker was named an Honorary Professor of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University.
