Keith Sweat

Keith Sweat is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer who achieved major success in the late 1980s and 1990s. Raised in a neighborhood that shaped his musical sensibilities, he began singing at a young age and later joined a Harlem-based group called Jamilah.

His big break came with the release of his debut album, “Make It Last Forever,” in 1987. Produced by Vincent Davis and boasting collaborations with Teddy Riley, the album served as one of the defining records of the burgeoning new jack swing movement, blending R&B with hip-hop elements. The record’s success — fueled by singles such as “I Want Her” — brought Sweat mainstream recognition and established his signature style of smooth, pleading vocals and sensual grooves.

As the 1990s progressed, Sweat remained a prominent presence on R&B charts with hits like “Twisted” and “Nobody,” both from his self-titled 1996 album. Beyond his solo efforts, he also formed the supergroup LSG alongside Gerald Levert and Johnny Gill, releasing the successful album “Levert.Sweat.Gill” in 1997.

In addition to his accomplishments as a performer, Sweat has produced and discovered new talent, contributing to the careers of groups such as Silk and Kut Klose. Continuing to record, tour, and connect with fans, he remains active as the host of a nationally syndicated radio show called “The Sweat Hotel,” where his soothing voice and playlist of classic slow jams maintain his status as one of R&B’s enduring figures.
