Kinky Friedman worked in a variety of genres and built up a diverse and reputable career. Friedman began his acting career in film, appearing in such titles as "Record City" (1977) and the Dennis Hopper comedy sequel "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2" (1986). He worked in television in his early acting career, including a part on "Saturday Night Live" (1975-).

In addition to acting, Friedman created music for "Twirl" (1981-82). In the nineties and the early 2000s, Friedman devoted his time to various credits, such as "Farm Aid V" (The Nashville Network, 1991-92), "The John Larroquette Show" (NBC, 1993-97), "The Late Show With David Letterman" (CBS, 1993-2015) and "Real Time with Bill Maher" (HBO, 2002-). Friedman also appeared in "The King of Luck."
