Peter Yarrow was an American singer and songwriter who found fame with the 1960s folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary. His passion for music blossomed during his time at Cornell University, where he honed his songwriting skills and social consciousness. He co-founded the legendary folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, whose evocative music, including “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” became a defining soundtrack of the early 1960s.

With a focus on harmony and poignant lyrics, the group helped propel the American folk revival while also championing civil rights and anti-war causes. Yarrow’s onstage charisma and advocacy work distinguished him in both musical and social circles. Beyond live performances, he made numerous television appearances, most notably on programs such as The Ed Sullivan Show and a variety of PBS specials.
